Furnishing your bedroom

Moving onto the bedroom, pine again is a good idea here, not only for the bed itself but wardrobes, chest of draws, and bedside cabinets. Pine is a light wood and will look great when the sun shines in in the morning brightening everything up. If you are buying a new bed, think hard on the mattress. Am I getting good nights' sleep? Do I keep waking up at irregular intervals? If you're answering yes to any of these, your mattress could be doing you a disfavour.

A really good mattress that is not too hard and not too soft and seems to envelop your body when you lie on it is usually top quality and expensive to boot. The top of the range mattresses nowadays are made of a special foam that lasts for years and takes your shape thus supporting your body from all angles, therefore not causing your back to bend so much which it will do with a cheapy.

Save money ...

To save money and have nearly the same effect, consider just buying a foam topper which is about 75mm thick and fits over your existing mattress. These toppers come at a fraction of the price of a full foam mattress but still do the job.

On the theme of bedding, a futon (put-you-up) is ideal for the inevitable sleepovers when family and friends want to stay the night and all the beds are taken in the house. A futon is a lightweight bed with castors or metal frame that opens out into a bed in seconds.
